Join us at Station Campus to learn more about the $64M referendum and take a tour of the current middle school science classrooms.

At the August 13 Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously voted to proceed with a referendum seeking voter approval to address safety, security, and instructional needs at our schools, as well as build a new community auditorium at Barrington High School.

More than 2,500 community members collaborated throughout 2024 on a plan to address these challenges. The district then worked to make that plan even more efficient and fiscally responsible, saving taxpayers $11.5 million.

The final $64 million community-driven plan would cost the average district household an additional $236 per year. This plan will now go to the community for final approval in the upcoming November 5, 2024 election.

If successful, the referendum will:

  • Increase Safety & Security throughout Barrington 220
  • Build a New Community Auditorium at Barrington High School
  • Enhance STEAM and Instructional Spaces for Students

The community's plan for the future of our schools would ensure all Barrington 220 students have access to the quality education they deserve. It would allow us to alleviate safety concerns, address accessibility, improve programming, and increase opportunities for all our students. We could better protect the community's investment in our buildings and safely support the community's desire to use our high school for more events. All of this leads to an even higher quality school district, which leads to higher property values for our residents, and a stronger community.

Pursuant to School Board Policy 2:150, the Board of Education may establish committees to assist with the Board's governance function and, in some situations, to comply with state law requirements. Each committee reports directly to the Board of Education. Committee members may include both Board Members and non-Board Members depending on the committee's purpose. Committee appointments are made at the organization meeting of the Board that is held following the consolidated election in April of odd-numbered years. Committee meetings are typically held once per month. The purpose of the Finance Committee is to review the district budget, financial projections, and other important financial documents and reports.

The ELC is a very special place because we have the privilege of working closely with our students and their families as they begin their school experience. I feel very fortunate to be one of the teachers here because I am supported by so many talented, caring and dedicated staff members. To be a part of the ELC team is to be a part of something very special, as we meet the unique and diverse needs of each child, and celebrate the growth of all of our youngest learners. Nancy ReedTeacher

The best part of the ELC is the relationships I form with my students, families, and colleagues. I am surrounded by an amazing staff who all have the same goal of doing what's best for our students. I love teaching young kids at one of the most critical stages in development and helping them to foster a love of learning.  Caralee NiemiecTeacher

I love working at the ELC! Everyday is an opportunity to learn better practices and ways to support our students and their  families with registration and collaborating with our office team. Assisting our principal, Michelle Tapia, has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience. I'm excited to see what the future brings.

I feel blessed to be a part of the ELC. Every staff member in our building plays a role in the success of our students and we strive to make a difference everyday in the lives of our littlest learners. The transformation of each child from their first day that they walk into our doors, to when they leave us, is simply amazing!Mandy KonwentTeacher
